The Wisconsin Historical Society has significant holdings in materials related to World War I, with particular strengths in American visual materials, manuscripts and personal papers, and government publications.

Visual materials held by the Wisconsin Historical Society include 357 posters from the United States, Canada, France and other countries. Posters were issued by governmental agencies and private organizations for many purposes, including recruitment, fund raising and relief efforts. Photograph collections contain images from the American Press Association, the U.S. Army Signal Corps and other groups.

Wisconsin's participation in the war effort is represented in a number of collections at the Wisconsin Historical Society. Manuscript holdings contain the personal papers of veterans of World War I, while the library of the Wisconsin Historical Society collects state and federal government records.
