"[Herschel] assigns the nebular star [þokustjarna] located in the belt of Andromeda, near the star nu, to still another category. It can be seen with the naked eye and is shown in Figure 26. It is thicker in the middle than at the edges and is everywhere of a hazy appearance . . . . There are many such nebular stars in the heavens, some round, others elongated like the one depicted here (3E423)."
