Biography/History
Geopress, a publishing company specializing in maps
and geographic data, was founded by Rado Sandor in 1939 while he was living in
Geneva, Switzerland. Sandor, born in Hungary in 1899, was a cartographer and a
Soviet military intelligence agent during World War II. Geopress focused on news collection and dissemination.
Scope and Content Note
The scrapbooks, dating from 1939 to 1941, contain maps and text, published by Geopress, largely focusing on political boundaries and
divisions, battles and tensions, and occupied territories during World War II. Maps
of Europe are the most common, but also included are maps and text pertaining to
Africa, Asia, and North America.

all members of the public in accordance with state law.

The American Geographical Society (AGS) received these scrapbooks from an unknown
donor on an unknown date.
The American Geographical Society (AGS) donated these scrapbooks to the
University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Libraries in 1978 as part of its entire map
and library collections.
Denise Gergetz (supervised by Christel Maass in the UWM Libraries' Archives
Dept.) processed the collection in October and November 2009.
