Rhoda Ann Ziesler was born December 17, 1916 in Manitowoc, Wisconsin to Edward and Ann Ziesler. Ziesler began studying nursing after high school, graduating from nursing school at Holy Family Hospital in Manitowoc. In 1939, Ziesler was accepted into the Army Nursing Corps, and in late 1940, she received orders to travel to Fort Custer, Michigan, to train and work as a nurse. Ziesler worked at Custer for almost a year, and during her service there, was sent briefly to Camp Claiborne, Louisiana. Ziesler was then sent to Hawaii to serve at Schofield Barracks hospital as a nurse. During her time there, Ziesler met Raymond Weller, also from Wisconsin, at a “reunion” held for all servicemen and women from Wisconsin stationed in Hawaii. The two married in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, after the war, and had four children. Ziesler continued to work as a nurse, studying briefly in Illinois. Raymond Weller died in 1963, and Ziesler died in 2001. Both are buried in Calvary Cemetery in Manitowoc, Wisconsin.
