Wisconsin Council of Churches Records, 1875, 1904-1959

Biography/History

The Wisconsin Council of Churches is a direct outgrowth of the Wisconsin Federation of Reforms. The latter held its first meeting in 1898. In 1902 the name was changed to the Wisconsin Federation of Churches and Christian Workers and the constitution was changed to bring the work of the Federation into alliance with the National Council of Churches. As such, the Wisconsin Council of Churches is one of the oldest of the State Federations. Since October, 1945, Reverend Ellis H. Dana has served as Executive Vice President of the Council, with offices in Madison.
