Byron F. Wackett Papers, 1952-1976

Scope and Content Note

The collection consists of two major series, CORRESPONDENCE and COMMITTEE FILES, with three smaller series also included. Correspondence files primarily include letters from constituents dealing with a variety of subjects, with copies of Wackett's replies attached. There are a number of lengthy gaps in this series, particularly for the 1950's and early 1960's. The Committee Files contain scattered correspondence, and administrative and procedural records, such as agenda, reports, audit and budget papers, minutes, and proceedings, from the four major committees on which Wackett served, These files date primarily from 1968 to 1976. Copies of the actual claims presented to the State Claims Board have been discarded from the collection; they are on file at the Wisconsin Historical Society (see Records Disposition Authorization 155/78-1, for further information).

Also present in the collection are typewritten copies of Wackett's newsletters to constituents; bills, drafts, and related materials used or written by Wackett; and miscellaneous reports and other legislative reference documents.
