Scope and Content Note: Additions, 1953-2001, consisting of files documenting Robert MacNeil’s writings, sound recordings of speeches by and interviews with MacNeil, and moving image material of and relating to his career in journalism. Manuscript material includes research notes and drafts for Breaking News (1998), Burden of Desire (1992), The Voyage (1995), Charles (circa 2001, unpublished), Karla (circa 2000, unpublished), and Paperweight (1955-1956, unpublished); viewer correspondence and press coverage of his retirement from the MacNeil/Lehrer NewsHour; production notes, press clippings, and publicity for MacNeil/Lehrer NewsHour programs; and transcripts from Weekly World Report, July 1953-April 1954. Also includes publicity shots from International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences events and moving image materials of various programs anchored by and interviews with MacNeil.
