Lawrence B. Laurent Papers, 1962-1964

Scope and Content Note

The Papers of Lawrence Laurent consist almost entirely of drafts and resource material for the book Equal Time. The drafts are fragmentary and often unlabeled. The resource material includes handwritten notes and ideas, clippings, and several speeches concerning radio and television broadcasting. Included are speeches delivered by Fairfax M. Cone, Louis M. Lyons, Jack Guthman, Oren Harris, Paul Ylvisaker, and M. S. Novik.

The papers also comprise: correspondence, 1962-1963, concerning Laurent's articles and activities; and articles and speeches by Laurent and clippings about him, 1963. In the correspondence, one letter concerns his participation in a 1963 conference of the Institute for Education by Radio-Television, Ohio State University; one encloses a speech by LeRoy Collins, July 5, 1963, for the Ditchley Foundation; and one invites Laurent to participate in a conference at Reed College on the role of television in the democratic process.

The articles and speeches folder includes a talk, April 1, 1963, at the National Association of Broadcasters convention and a talk, April 20, 1963, at the Sigma Delta Chi convention. Other items in the folder are clipped columns and references to Laurent from trade magazines.
