Program Research in Correctional Effectiveness examines the history of offenders including police contacts, employment history, income, social skills, and personality. Early Release, Intensive Supervision Study looks at prisoner behavior while incarcerated and assesses a prisoner's maturity, social relationships, hostility, and school or work experiences. Also of note are two studies with prisoner completed questionnaires (Prisoner Attitudes and Inmate Group Files).

The project's goal was to develop and test an administrative model for deployment of social work personnel to make the best use of staffing levels. Records include organizational material on the grant project including applications, correspondence, and meeting minutes. There are also research materials which extensively document the social work case system and foster care. A small amount of information related to the Care and Treatment Needs of Children study is also included.

The largest study, "Projections of Mental Retardation in Wisconsin" aimed to determine the number of people in Wisconsin who would need care and services. The Mendota State Hospital Remodeling study also aimed to gather demographic information about the need for mental health services. There is also a large number of smaller studies about mental health covering topics such as adolescents, family care, restraints, multiple births, and senility [dementia].
