Scope and Content Note

The Max Ehrlich Papers are composed of correspondence, business papers, credits, ephemera, drafts for a novel, radio and television series scripts, and miscellaneous scripts and story outlines.

The correspondence and business papers, 1936-1964, include Mr. Ehrlich's correspondence, contracts, and residual notices. The novel includes the author's original draft of Deep Is the Blue and the edited draft after corrections by the editor.

The most complete radio series is The Big Story, consisting of eighty-six scripts, some of which are annotated. The Crime Cases of Warden Lawes series includes twenty-two scripts. Also included are The Aldrich Family, Big Town and Nick Carter, Master Detective. The latter two have annotated and typewritten scripts.

The television series includes The Big Story, which was carried over from radio to television. This series consists of thirty scripts, many of which are annotated. Other scripts include Barney Blake,Suspense, Treasury Men in Action, and The Web. The scripts are from various stages of writing, and include typewritten scripts, author's first and second revisions, and final drafts. Some of the scripts include production notes and correspondence as noted on the shelf list.

The miscellaneous scripts consist of those written for radio and television series, including Mr. and Mrs. North,The Defenders, The Nurses, and the U.S. Steel Theatre Guild. Also included are miscellaneous story and series outlines.

The scripts are filed alphabetically by title of series, then by title of script, although the miscellaneous scripts are filed alphabetically by script title only. The correspondence is arranged chronologically.
