: Addition consisting of copies of extracts from Federal Bureau of Information files on Herbert Biberman, the moving picture Salt of the Earth, and the company that produced it, Independent Productions Corporation, obtained by James J. Lorence under the provisions of the Freedom of Information and Privacy Acts between 1988 and 2001 while undertaking research for his book The Suppression of "Salt of the Earth": How Hollywood, Big Labor, and Politicians Blacklisted a Movie in Cold War America (Albuquerque: University of New Mexico Press, 1999). As usual with such copies, access to many pages requested was refused (these pages are replaced by a standard form indicating which clauses of the acts justified the refusal), and large parts of many released documents have been blacked out.
