The Alan Schneider Papers are organized into two main parts. Part 1 comprises all materials received in the Archives between 1964 and early 1968. Part 2 consists of materials received from late 1968 through 1980. (A few additional boxes received after 1980 are not described in this finding aid.)
Part 1 papers date 1929-1968 and include general correspondence, scripts and production files from plays in which Schneider was involved as well as many scripts only considered by Schneider or sent to him, papers from Schneider's years as a student, lecture notes and other papers from his academic teaching work, both published and unpublished writings and talks by Schneider, files on professional organizations, files on Schneider's travels, and general biographical materials.
Part 2 papers date 1916-1980, though the majority of the files date from the 1960s and 1970s. Part 2 includes most of the same kinds of materials as those found in Part 1. The two parts each contain about half of the collection. Part 2 begins with Box 96.
