Scope and Content Note: Correspondence of the President of the AFL, research personnel, union members, and affiliated unions; memoranda, statistical data, copies of hearings and legal proceedings, and lists and information about AFL local unions; clippings, pamphlets, and other material dealing with industrial conditions, state and Federal legislation, or action taken toward industry and labor, and other related subjects. Materials in the decade 1930-1940 deal primarily with NRA codes issuances, rulings, hearings, and wage and hour decisions. The 1940-1950 materials are concerned especially with World War II and deal with production, housing, wage and working problems, post-war adjustment, and demobilization, with substantial amounts of information on the OPA, OPM, and other war and post-war governmental agencies.

Correspondence, telegrams, reports, and other miscellaneous materials exchanged between Federal Labor Unions (FLUs) and Directly Affiliated Local Unions (DALUs) and the AFL concerning charters, negotiations, strikes, and other topics. Some copies of agreements are also included. Only a few documents, all in box 1, date 1904-1932.

Box 1 contains a checklist of Wisconsin locals covered in the series. It shows local number and name, location, date chartered, name and address of secretary, company where workers are employed, type of trade or work, disposition (date disbanded, national union joined, etc.) of local, and other notes.
