Scope and Content Note

Records of the Rice Lake, Wisconsin Woman's Christian Temperance Union, and fragmentary records of the Tri-County Board (comprised of WCTU members from Barron and Polk and ? Counties). The records consist of a long run of secretary's books, 1928-1956, 1958-1969, containing minutes of monthly meetings and membership rolls. Treasurer's books, 1941-1956, 1958-1961, contain lists of members' names and dues, and records of receipts and disbursements. A folder of WCTU certificates and membership cards includes certificates of commendation sent to the Rice Lake Union from the National WCTU. Also included are a newspaper clipping describing the 1922 convention of the Wisconsin WCTU, held in Rice Lake, a few letters, and a WCTU songbook, circa 1924, compiled for the golden anniversary of the National WCTU. Minutes and programs of annual conventions and of board and other meetings of the Tri-County Board, 1959-1976, are also present. The collection also includes the sheet music “In Memory She Lingers,” referring to Frances Willard, with words by Helen A. Holton and music by W. G. Farrar. The sheet music has a copyright date of 1898.
