Scope and Content Note

Records of the Town Clerk, 1871-1999; Treasurer, 1880-1983; and Superintendent of Highways, 1871-1930. Record books generally include proceedings of regular and special town board meetings, reports of receipts and disbursements and other financial reports, oaths of office, chattel mortgage records, school district maps, petitions, ordinances and resolutions; and, in some cases, register of officials, election results and school district information. The volume for 1871-1889 includes road district records.

Except for the Register of orders, which consists only of orders, the Treasurer's books usually contain receipts and disbursements, showing the date, from whom received and on what account, the fund, amount of order, number of order, to whom paid, and for what purpose as well as lists of local, county, and state taxes. Some volumes include school taxes and apportionment of these funds.

Highway records consist of petitions to lay out and discontinue roads, actions of the Road/Highway District Overseers or Supervisors pertaining to laying out roads, levying taxes, and determining road districts. Included are the names of the overseers of highways. The volume for 1902-1930 includes copies of town board proceedings (minutes, orders and agreements) and Justice of the Peace orders relating to highways.
