Scope and Content Note

Records, 1997-2002, on the Wisconsin Science Advisory Council on Metallic Mining, which was created in 1997 by Governor Tommy Thompson to review proposed mining operations in the State and to identify technologies that would reduce environmental impacts of mining. Most of the records concern the proposed Crandon Mine project in northeast Wisconsin. Included are minutes, agenda, notes, and other materials from meetings held by the Council; reports on environmental impacts associated with the Crandon Mine project; concerns with the Crandon Mine project that were submitted to the Council; and materials on the creation of the Council and Council member selection.
