Created by chapter 366, Laws of 1876, the State Board of Health was the eleventh such agency in the nation and the third in the midwest. When the Board of Health was combined with the Department of Public Welfare in 1967 to form the Department of Health and Social Services, the Board became the Council on Health (chapter 327, Laws of 1967). Chapter 39, Laws of 1975 repealed the Council, effective July 31, 1975.
