Scope and Content Note: Records, 1979-1982, from the administration of Lee Sherman Dreyfus, including inmate requests for pardon or commutation sent to the Governor, and requests for pardon application materials, with copies of replies from legal counsel staff; and applications to waive the cost of the executive clemency application process due to indigence. Included are records related to the clemency request of Jack Pickens, a Waupun State Prison inmate who appealed for executive clemency after being charged with rape, including newspaper clippings, notes, and letters from individuals sent to the Governor pleading for the release of Pickens. Included with this accession is a piece of volcanic rock intended as a good luck charm, most likely sent as a gift with one of these letters.
