Official gubernatorial papers of Gaylord A. Nelson, who served as governor of Wisconsin from 1959 to 1963, including correspondence and memoranda, appointments, bill files, subject files, speeches, proclamations, official greetings and statements, press releases and clipping scrapbooks (available only on microfilm), political material, and a personal name index. The correspondence includes exchanges with the general public; Democratic Party leaders; the Attorney General and officials in the Conservation Department, the Highway Commission, the Industrial Commission, the Motor Vehicle Department, the Public Service Commission, the Department of Public Welfare, and other state agencies; and members of the Committee on Water Pollution, the Governor's Committee for the Employment of the Physically Handicapped, the Governor's Committee on the United Nations and other official groups on a variety of topics and issues. Prominent among these are civil defense, conservation, Menominee tribal termination, and taxation. English
