Wisconsin. Circuit Court (Richland County): Naturalization Records, 1860-1946

Scope and Content Note

Certificates of Naturalization and Petitions

The beginning place for using the Richland County Naturalization Records is the alphabetical Card Index to Certificates and Petitions, 1861-1946. It gives the volume and page number for documents contained in Volumes 1-6 and the volume and petition number for the Petitions in Volume 7.

There is an additional Index to Certificates, 1861-1901, for those certificates contained in Volumes 1 and 2; it is arranged in alphabetical segments by first letter of surname and roughly chronological therein and gives the volume and page number. The researcher should consult this index only as a last resort, on the outside chance that a name may have been omitted from the Card Index.

Declarations of Intention

The Index to Declarations, 1860-1889, lists only Declarations which are not included in this collection. It is arranged in alphabetical segments by first letter of surname and roughly chronological therein. It gives only the name and the date of filing the Declaration.

For the Declarations included in this collection, there is an alphabetical segment index at the beginning of each set of Declarations, giving the name and the page or Declaration number.

The Chronological List of Declarations, 1860-1876, gives the name of the person filing a Declaration and date of the filing. Entries are arranged in chronological order.
