1967-1974 125 audio recordings and 0.1 cubic feet of papers (1
folder) : Audio includes interviews made by Newhouse for the use in writing his
newspaper articles. Several interviews are with people who knew President
Herbert Hoover and an interview with Joel Geier, National Chairman of the
International Socialists on “Watergate: Nixon's Last Crisis.”
Also includes a November 26, 1956 interview with Newhouse by Clement
Sylvestro of the Historical Society staff concerning controversy over
Madison Police Chief Bruce Weatherly which led to a 1956 disciplinary
hearing. Newhouse comments on the people involved, their political
ambitions, and related issues such as court testament of juveniles and a
survey by the Northwest Traffic Institute, and gives his own favorable
impression of Weatherly. Notes are available for a few recordings and have
been noted in the contents.
