John J. Maurer Papers, 1975-1984

Scope and Content Note

The John J. Maurer papers cover his service in the Wisconsin State Senate (1975-1984), with heaviest coverage of the later years of his time as state senator. The material is divided into BILL FILES, CORRESPONDENCE, PRESS RELEASES, SPEECHES, and SUBJECT FILES.

The BILL FILES document the final session (1983-1984) of Maurer's tenure as state senator, and are arranged by bill number. The CORRESPONDENCE in the collection includes general constituent responses; form letters; hotline messages; letters to lobbyists, other legislators, and students; correspondence with the media; and messages redirected to and from the Wisconsin delegation to the United States Congress in Washington, DC. PRESS RELEASES, not a complete set but again, concentrated on the latter years of Maurer's tenure, are arranged chronologically, as are various speeches and speech material. The SUBJECT FILES are arranged alphabetically, and include, among others, legislative committee issues, Kenosha governmental concerns, and Wisconsin state government agencies.
