Papers of Steve Rees, a writer, editor, and anti-Vietnam war activist whose involvement with the revolutionary organization of Movement for a Democratic Military (MDM) led to the establishment in 1970, of the underground GI newspaper Up Against the Bulkhead. Included in the organizational records are background materials, administrative records, articles and research, correspondence, and files relating to the production of the newspaper. A prominent correspondent is David Cortright, author of Soldier's Revolt. There are also limited files documenting Rees's activity in the formation of the above-ground GI newspaper Enlisted Times and some fragmentary records of the Stop Our Ship (SOS) movement, closely allied with Up Against the Bulkhead. Records consist of material relating to the production of the SOS Newsletter, correspondence, mailing lists, and project files on specific U.S. aircraft carriers. English
