: Additions, 1961-2001 (bulk 1982-2001), including correspondence, mailings, administrative files, subject files, and newspaper clippings of NCARL and the First Amendment Foundation (FAF), an independent arm of NCARL. The majority of the correspondence is to and from Frank Wilkinson, head of NCARL; Chauncey Alexander, past-president of FAF; and Kit Gage, the Washington representative for NCARL since 1990. Also included are financial records; grant information; award recipient information; correspondence related to field trip activities and speaking engagements conducted by Wilkinson; records related to legislative lobbying efforts in support of First Amendment rights, particularly in opposition to the Anti-Terrorism Bill of 1996; petitions on behalf of FAF/NCARL put forward by members of the academic and professional community; information on books and pamphlets published by the organization; and FBI files centered on Wilkinson's activities from 1960 to 1980. Wilkinson was also involved with the Southern California chapter of the ACLU, and a number of subject files are devoted to local ACLU organizations.
