International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Chauffeurs, Warehousemen, and Helpers. Local 695 Records, 1932-1989

Scope and Content Note

The strength of the collection lies in its documentation of the relationship of the union and its members with the employers with whom it had contracts and/or conducted organizing drives. The value is compounded by the fact that the Historical Society holds records of several of the companies with which the local had extensive dealings. The records thoroughly document negotiations, strikes, and contracts. Files also include such things as position descriptions, wage rates, seniority lists, and grievance reports, and thus provide a good deal of information on working conditions, job content and duties, employment patterns, and union and employer imposed discipline.

Another important aspect of the collection is the information it provides on the activities of state and area Teamster bodies, including Wisconsin Teamsters Joint Councils 39, 50, and 60, the Wisconsin Drivers Conference, and the Joint State Area Committee. The latter is a body composed of union and trucking company representatives intended to settle contract grievances.
