1943-1946 United States Army Engineers: overseas duty in South Pacific; entered as a private and honorably discharged as a First Lieutenant.


Private Employment
1949-1956 Practiced law in Madison, Wisconsin; for several years a member of the law firm of Arthur, Dewa, Nestingen and Tomlinson.

1951-1955 Member of Madison Common Council, Alderman, Eighth Ward.
1951-1952 Chairman, Special Committee on Human Rights of the Madison Common Council formed to report on a proposed Human Rights Ordinance.
