The records of the Dane County Telephone Company were presented to the State Historical Society of Wisconsin in 1916 by the La Follette family and were at first included with the papers of Robert La Follette, Sr. It is not known why the records were held by La Follette for he had only a small financial interest in the Company. A letter from Vyto Kapocius of the Public Relations Department of the Wisconsin Telephone Company, dated March 21, 1972, indicates that this collection is probably the only extant record of the Dane County Telephone Company for no records were transferred in the consolidation of 1908.
