Harold Willis Story Papers, 1941-1947

Scope and Content Note

This collection consists of three binders and a scrapbook of materials relating to the Allis-Chalmers Manufacturing Company and Local 248 of the United Auto Workers (CIO). Two of the binders were prepared by Allis-Chalmers for the use of Mr. Story (a vice-president of the company) in his presentations before Congressional committees investigating communism in organized labor. Much of the material pertains to the strikes by Local 248 in 1941 and 1946, and the alleged communist leadership of the union. The third binder contains a copy of the union bargaining proposals for the 1943 contract. The scrapbook consists of photographic reproductions of alleged fraudulent ballots cast in favor of the 1941 strike.
