Founded in 1972, the purpose of the Coalition was to support the many women's groups which developed in Milwaukee during the feminist movement of the 1970's. The Coalition worked to combat sex discrimination, educate women regarding their legal rights, vocational possibilities and personal health and to serve as an advocate for women. The Coalition was especially active from the mid-1970's to the early 1980's.
