The papers consist largely of Wilson's diaries and letters to his wife, Jeannie, all transcribed and edited for publication by William Sims (husband of Janet Wilson, a great-granddaughter of Matthew), and Sims' correspondence with historical societies and individuals concerning Wilson's paintings.
