Congregation Anshe Sfard (Milwaukee, Wis.) Records, 1948-1970

Scope and Content Note

The records consist of the constitutions of the congregation and of its men's club; clergymen's records, such as burial, birth, death, and family information; contracts for using the synagogue's facilities; and financial records. They are organized alphabetically by type of record and chronologically thereunder. The Applications for Reservations of Facilities are requests made by members of the congregation for use of the meeting hall, kitchen, chapel, and synagogue for special occasions, such as anniversary parties, bar mitzvahs or weddings. The relative completeness of the Death Records cannot be ascertained; however, they are a significant genealogical source, because the next of kin are generally named and the origin of the older generation of the congregation, most of whom were born in Eastern Europe about the turn of the century, is given. The Men's Club records consist of the constitution of that organization and a book containing notes of procedural and financial matters.
