In 1896 the Milwaukee Jewish Mission was established by Lizzie Black Kander in borrowed quarters of Temple B'ne Jeshurun and Temple Emanu-El. In 1907 the Mission was replaced by “The Settlement” located in its own building in the Jewish ghetto. A new enlarged site was purchased circa 1911 that became known as the Abraham Lincoln House until 1930, when the Milwaukee Jewish Center was started in quarters on Milwaukee Street. In circa 1951 it moved to its present Prospect Avenue location and with a new building in 1954 became the Jewish Community Center of Milwaukee.
