Miriam Rowell Hauer: Hauer, Croatt, and Perry Genealogical Papers, 1680-1982

Biography/History

On April 14, 1847, Victor and Elizabeth (Fauss or Fouss) Croatt, along with their children, left their home at Attert, Luxembourg and sailed for the United States. After spending 35 days at sea, they landed at Milwaukee and shortly thereafter Victor Croatt traveled 35 miles north and claimed 30 acres of land near what is now Belgium, Wisconsin.

Their seventh child, Jean (John) Nicholas, born March 31, 1833 in Attert, Luxembourg, married Catherine Perry (Pierri) on April 24, 1861 in Belgium. This union produced two children before Jean Nicholas' untimely death in 1864. Catherine later married Joseph Lusson and by 1880 they made their home at St. Lucas, Iowa. Nicholas, a son from her first marriage, wed Katherine Kramer of St. Lucas and their third child, Cecilia married John B. Hauer. Their son, Urban Hauer, is the husband of Miriam Rowell Hauer, the compiler of this genealogy.
