Racine Parent-Teacher Association United Council Scrapbooks, 1935-1971

Scope and Content Note

The scrapbooks document the activities and growth of the council during its early years as well as during the 1960s. Included are histories of the council, correspondence, clippings, committee reports, photographs, annual reports, by-laws, programs, flyers, directories, lists of council presidents and board members, and minutes of meetings. These materials document plays; picnics; recognition banquets for teachers, parents, and students; other events sponsored by the council and conferences attended by members; and debates and news coverage of controversial issues in which the council was involved or had an interest. The majority of the scrapbooks deal with the council's history and minutes of its meetings. Two scrapbooks are representative of individual school PTA histories - the Janes School PTA and the Garfield School PTA. These scrapbooks deal more specifically with the activities and events of those schools as compared to those of the complete district.
