Socialist Workers Party Records, 1928-2002

Scope and Content Note

The records of the Socialist Workers Party are one of the largest and most complete research collections at the State Historical Society of Wisconsin on left-wing politics in the United States, documenting not only the party's own tumultuous internal history, but also its relations with various other right and left wing organizations. Its value is further enhanced by the network of collections of related organizations and party leaders also held by the Historical Society.

Despite its size and research importance, the collection is by no means complete. Entire aspects of party functioning such as membership, finances, and the editorial preparation of its many publications are unrepresented. Some party records have been deposited at the Hoover Institution.
