Wisconsin Federation of Conservation Clubs Records, 1948-1957

Scope and Content Note

The Wisconsin Federation of Conservation Clubs was founded in 1959 in an effort to unify the efforts of various local groups in promoting the cause of conservation at the state level. This film contains the Federation correspondence and miscellaneous other conservation papers of Les Woerpel, one of the founders and leaders of the Federation. He served as the first president of the organization, and later as executive secretary. He also edited several publications issued by the Federation.

Woerpel's correspondence reflects various conservations issues current in Wisconsin during the 1950's, including water pollution, hunting and fishing season policies, wage increases for game wardens, protection of scenic areas, and many others. He corresponded widely with other conservation leaders in the state and nation, with officials of the Conservation Department and the Conservation Commission, and with various elected officials.
