Part 4 (M89-284): Additions, circa 1831-1982 2.0 cubic feet (2 records center cartons) and 0.8 cubic feet of photographs (2 archives boxes and 1 card box) : Additions, circa 1831-1982, pertaining to Swan's great grandfather, Matthew Wilson (1811-1892), a portrait artist who painted the last portrait from life of Abraham Lincoln in March 1865. The papers consist largely of Wilson's diaries and letters to his wife, Jeannie, all transcribed and edited for publication by William Sims (husband of Janet Wilson, a great-granddaughter of Matthew), and Sims' correspondence with historical societies and individuals concerning Wilson's paintings. There are also photographs of family members, the Wilson home at Lake George, New York, and many of Wilson's paintings. There are also 13 cased photographs, including daguerreotypes, tintypes, and photographs.
