Wisconsin. County Court (Marquette County): Guardianship Case Files, circa 1840-1975

Scope and Content Note

Guardianship of minors files consist of copies of petitions to the court for approval of guardians, letters of appointment, notices of hearings, oaths of guardians, and judges’ orders regarding the administration of estates for minor heirs. Included in the records are the names of minors, guardians, decedents, witnesses, and presiding judges; the residences of children, parents, and guardians; the date and place of death of decedents; and, in some cases, inventories of real and personal estates of decedents, orders for guardianship sales, and resignations of guardians following liquidation of estates. State general hospital claims detail the commitment of insane and feeble-minded people to state institutions. Files of insanity hearings contain petitions, letters, orders, inventories, reports, accounts, and testimony relating to the care of incompetents and the management of their property; petitions and affidavits; and applications and orders for the commitment of insane persons.
