Scope and Content Note: Papers, 1922-1950, of William Spohn (kept at his law firm) which document his public service career. Spohn served as arbitrator for the National War Labor Board (1943) to settle disputes between the Allis Chalmers Company and the United Auto Workers, Local 248. Spohn also arbitrated cases for the Heil Company, headed an investigation of the Dane County Welfare and Outdoor Relief (1935), served on the Citizen's Committee on Public Welfare (1936-1937), and performed legal services for the Mason and Hanger Company in connection with building the Badger Ordnance Works. The materials provide information on facets of labor history, the evolution of local and state welfare programs, and wartime conditions on the homefront, in addition to Spohn's personal and professional life. Included are legal case materials, speeches and writings by Spohn, and biographical information.
