Container Title
M96-226
Part 1 (M96-226): Original Collection, 1948-1994
Physical Description: 3.8 cubic feet (11 archives boxes)
Scope and Content Note: Papers of “people's lawyer” Arthur Kinoy, reflecting his use of law as a tool for progressive social change. Included are speeches, articles, interviews, biographical information, notes, correspondence, reports, memoranda, minutes, near-print and published material, and legal case files containing court documents and additional correspondence, notes, and memoranda. Among the documented cases is Council of Federated Organizations v. Rainey and other civil rights cases, various blacklisting cases concerning Prockter Productions, and the Donna Allen case and other cases concerning HUAC. Particularly strong are the files on the dismissal of Mary Jane Keeney and other United Nations employees who were subpoenaed by the McCarran Committee. Some files document partners Frank J. Donner and William Kunstler. In addition, there are papers on various organizations with which Kinoy was involved, such as the Center for Constitutional Rights (which he co-founded), the Greensboro Civil Rights Fund, the National Rainbow Coalition, and the National Committee for Independent Political Action. International concerns are reflected in files on Puerto Rico, Cuba, and the Nicaraguan constitution of 1985.
