In 1953, James Wick visited the Soviet Union along with six other newspaper and radio editors and owners; this made Wick one of the first U.S. daily newsmen admitted to the country since 1946. Wick was also the publisher of Human Events and had connections to other publications. His wife, Dodee Wick (Hilda Eckstrom), was a stage actress. The Wicks also owned a theatrical school.
