United Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers of America Local 1111 Records, 1930-2010

Biography/History

The United Electrical Radio and Machine Workers of America, Local 1111, was chartered in 1937 for the production employees of the Allen-Bradley Company in Milwaukee. The object of the local union, as stated in its constitution, was "to protect, maintain, and advance the interests of the workers; to organize the unorganized in conformity with its jurisdiction and to promote the advancement of such workers." The local union was involved in a strike in 1939, over the hiring of two nonunion men in the punch press department. They struck again in 1967 and in 1970, over contract disputes. In 1985, the Allen-Bradley Company was purchased by Rockwell Automation. The union was involved in demonstrations in 1997 and 2002, over outsourced jobs. As positions were removed from the Milwaukee plant, the union's membership declined. The local union was dissolved in 2011. A partial list of officers of UE Local 1111 follows:
