“WSOCS was organized in 1971 to record the information inscribed on cemetery headstones before they became obliterated and unreadable. A number of members and friends of the Wisconsin State Genealogical Society banded together to begin compiling the information on the headstones of as many Wisconsin Cemeteries as possible.
They met and decided to incorporate under the laws of the State of Wisconsin as the Wisconsin State Old Cemetery Society, Inc. The structure of the organization is set up similar to that of the Genealogical Society and the Wisconsin Council for Local History into Regions and then by Counties. Each Region has a Regional Director and each County is assigned a County Coordinator answering to the Regional Director.
Over 4,000 Wisconsin Cemeteries have been compiled.”
