Series: 2007 Additions, 1998-2006
Physical Description: 9.0 c.f. (22 archives boxes and 1 flat box) and 1 videotape
Scope and Content Note: Additions made in 2007 that document Green's eight years in Congress, 1999-2007, as a representative of Wisconsin's Eighth Congressional District. Included are legislative subject files on bills sponsored by Green on issues of particular concern to him, press materials, speech outlines, and clippings. The subject files were heavily weeded prior to shipment to the archives and consist only of bill drafts and analyses, sponsorship letters, memoranda, and secondary information. Most extensive are files concerning sexual predators (Green's “Two Strikes” Bill), the Violence against Women Act, and DNA testing, but there are also files on activities in support of the legislative agenda of President George W. Bush such as the No Child Left Behind program and the President's faith-based initiative. There is also some information on the House response to the 9-11 Commission report. Topics of particular concern to Wisconsin in the subject files include Chronic-Wasting Disease, invasive species in the waters of the Great Lakes, and the recovery of the Linda E, a commercial fishing boat that sank in Lake Michigan in 1998. The speeches consist only of outlines. The chronologically-arranged press materials, which include press releases, opinion columns, and clippings (primarily 2003-2006), provide the best overall coverage of Green's congressional career. The clippings also cover his unsuccessful gubernatorial campaign in 2006. The videotape is a documentary about the Linda E.
