Abstract:
Papers, 1963-1997 (mainly 1964, 1991-1995), of author William Heath consisting of his research files and drafts of his work, The Children Bob Moses Led, an historical novel focusing on Freedom Summer, 1964. The bulk of the collection consists of the various drafts and notes that document Heath's writing process. Also included are orientation schedules and letters written by Freedom Summer volunteers who traveled to Mississippi in the summer of 1964 to assist with African American voter registration. Their letters reflect their experiences living with African American families as well as their exposure to the violence directed at African Americans living in McComb and Amite Counties.
