Jackson County (Wis.). Clerk: Records, 1859-1948

Scope and Content Note

The marriage register consists of copies of marriage certificates and registrations listing date, names of both parties, husband's occupation, residence, and names of both party's parents. The loose marriage certificates and registrations were found in the marriage register and consist of the same information. The reports of marriage are stubs that were attached to marriage certificates and contain the same information listed above. The register of nurses contains a name index and a certificate for each nurse residing or practicing in the county. The cemetery funds records are arranged alphabetically by cemetery name and list name, amount paid, and in some cases plot number.

The School Superintendent record book contains a register of district clerks and teacher examination records. The three volumes of teacher certificates list name, age, and examination results of those authorized to teach.

The Justice of the Peace record book consists of two parts. The first is financial accounts of individual towns, and the second is short summaries of criminal and civil cases brought before the court. These include the names of the plaintiff and defendant, court costs, and verdict.
