George C. Jones Papers, 1856-1914

Scope and Content Note

The George Clark Jones Papers, which relate almost totally to Mr. Jones' business activities, include his letter press copy books, 1856-1914; business records for various companies he was associated with; and an incomplete set of his diaries, 1865-1907.

The letter press copy books have been kept in the order originally given them by Mr. Jones. All of the volumes contain Mr. Jones' business correspondence, except for volumes 28-31, which contain private correspondence, and volumes 25 and 27, which were kept by his son and associate, Edward G. Jones.

The business records include the minutes of the board of directors and stock register for the Challenger Mining and Development Company; ledgers and journals for the Wisconsin and Arizona Mining Company, the Neenah Cold Storage Company, and the Tremont Mine; and stock certificate books for the Outagamie County Produce Company, the Pearl and Jasper Consolidated Mining and Milling Company, and the Woodford Electric Manufacturing Company.

The diaries, 1865-1907, are incomplete as to daily entries for each volume and several years are missing. They contain not only daily entries, but also miscellaneous financial and business notes.
