Wisconsin. County Court (Fond du Lac County): Civil Case Files, 1877-1976

Biography/History

In 1877 the County Court's civil jurisdiction was reestablished to include all civil actions and proceedings in law and equity equally and concurrently with that of the circuit court in matters in which the amount in controversy did not exceed $20,000, including actions for divorce and mortgage foreclosure. Civil appeals from justices of the peace, except in the city and town of Ripon, were to be taken to the county court. Its jurisdiction was expanded in 1878 with the intent that it was to be a court of general jurisdiction and possess all the powers of the circuit court.
