Quick Draw McGraw Films, 1959-1961

Scope and Content Note

This collection consists of one-hundred thirty-three cartoons from the half-hour-long television comedy program Quick Draw McGraw, which was produced by Hanna-Barbera Productions and released in syndication from 1959 to 1961. Each episode would include three, seven-minute cartoons from its recurring series: Quick Draw McGraw—a Western about a dimwitted equine marshal, Snooper and Blabber—a detective series about a cat-and-mouse private eye duo, and Augie Doggie and Doggie Daddy—a comedy about father and son dogs. Other characters from Hanna-Barbera cartoons would make occasional appearances, including Yogi Bear and Snagglepuss. The series featured the voice talents of Daws Butler, Don Messick and Doug Young.

Quick Draw McGraw ran for three seasons, totaling forty-five episodes and one-hundred thirty-five individual segments, this collection contains only one-hundred thirty-three of the original cartoon segments from 1959-1961; including forty-three episodes of Quick Draw McGraw, forty-five episodes of Snooper and Blabber, and forty-five episodes of Augie Doggie and Doggie Daddy. The two cartoons missing from this series are Quick Draw McGraw cartoons “Bow-Wow Bandit” and “Treasure of El Kabong.” The cartoons are not arranged in entire episodes as they might originally have been released, but by series. Each cartoon is on a separate reel. All the reels in this collection are 16 mm prints with sound, in color, and have a running time of approximately 7 minutes. The visual quality of these prints is generally good overall although the quality differs between individual reels.
