The Art of Silence Films, 1975

Scope and Content Note

This collection consists of thirteen shorts from the series The Art of Silence, which was produced in 1975. The series features Marcel Marceau, a mime, who explains his art and then gives one performance per reel. The performances are divided into two subseries: Style Pantomimes are classic mime routines meant to demonstrate particular artistic or emotional skills. Bip Pantomimes are a series of comic routines Marceau invented, in which he plays the titular character, modeled after Charlie Chaplin's Little Tramp. There are a total of twelve performances (and one introduction) in this series.

This collection contains all of the original shorts, including the introduction reel, and both subseries. All the reels in this collection are 16 mm prints with sound, in color, and have a running time of approximately 10 to 14 minutes. The visual quality of these prints is good overall although the quality differs between individual reels.
